I am going to make a serious attempt at this. If I fail to update often enough don`t judge, I have a busy life sometimes!
Here is a little about me. I am on the surface an average sort of girl with a fairly average sort of life.
But when has the surface ever been the whole story. I have been pursuing all things artistic since childhood. I blame my parents. They are two very complicated people with a love of beauty in art. All three of us have matured and grown in the sort of things we are drawn to. I look at a long ago time back in Elmira and then look at myself now and am continually amazed at how my knowledge and taste and interest has grown.
I am the daughter of a photographer. Both learning and growing in our own very distinct way, but if you look close, you can see the relationship. I first took a photography course some 20 years ago, back when you learned how to develop your own pictures in a darkroom and mess around with things like film and chemicals and trying to figure out how to dodge and burn. When saving it in the mix was rather messy. I lost the ability to take pictures for a long time, missed a lot of college memories. I was without camera and without the funds and the access to make my own way. And I sure do like to make my own way. Ask my Mom, she`ll tell ya! I longed to be able to photograph again, but didn`t. This lasted for probably 10 years at least. I pursued other things. Theatre is my other passion and that took much of my time. But then this age of digital came along. And I itched to join in. But again money has ever been an issue. So it took time. I longed to delve into the world of SLR`s and Photoshop. And then one Christmas came and my Dad gave me a Nikon ( I love my Nikon camera, I love to take the photographs....) his old one. He got the new one. Which was fine with me! So I had the d70 and went to work.
I have since discovered that I have a yen to take pictures of kids. I work in a preschool so have plenty of opportunity. Kids are a funny thing. Sometimes you can tell them you are taking their picture and still get a great shot and sometimes you have to perform a sort of sneak attack. I have learned that being able to take pictures in bursts is a very important ability.

Kids are fast. Kids are honest. They can be serious and goofy all in the space of a breath. You can get lost in their eyes wondering what is going on inside. What do they think, what do they see. You can try to see where they are going but in the end you still don`t know.
I am very much about eyes in my photos. There is something about them that captivates me. Which is, I know, true of lots of people. I need to capture it. That split second of immortality.
So that is all for now. I shall pursue my interests, which is portraits and nature mostly but really anything that catches my interest. And hopefully will post to the void when ever the fancy strikes me.
